What You Must Know Now to Sell Used Books Online

Written by Dillon on February 14, 2009 – 11:34 am -

Do you realize that you can sell your pre-owned books via Amazon.com? You can also sell books that you pick up at yard sales and from thrift stores.

Well, it’s likely that is not news to you, especially if you’ve researched various ways to make money online. Amazon’s sellers’ program is a well known venue for pocketing extra change by listing and selling used books.

What you might not know is that it is really feasible to establish a good income as a bookseller affiliated with Amazon.

Now that could well be frankly difficult to believe if you got caught, as I did, in the great oversupply problem that struck Amazon’s used-book sellers a while back.

It was so easy to join Amazon as a bookseller that a huge throng of folks started doing it. The result was to drive down prices so far that some books were being sold for pennies – hardly worth the time and expense of packaging and mailing them to customers.

Nonetheless, it is is still quite possible to obtain books cheaply and then resell them through Amazon for $10, $20 or $30 each, and often much more.

Here’s the secret that makes this possible: You should get one of those handheld portable digital assistants. You attach a barcode reader to it, and download Amazon’s product database onto it. Then you just take your PDA/barcode reader with you on your book hunting trips. You can use it to check the current fetching prices of the books you find, and then only purchase those that you can see will bring in good money when you list them on Amazon.

Using a PDA with Amazon’s book prices information on it is the efficient way to run a used-book business today. The greatest benefit is that this will keep you from wasting your energy (and cash) acquiring books that no one wants.

There’s a good ebook available on how to make real money selling used books through Amazon, using the PDA secret. There’s a detailed, independent review of it here: Can You Still Make Money Selling Used Books on Amazon? Or, you can go directly to the book’s web site to learn more.

Selling through Amazon is not the only way to earn income with books. Four additional, completely different methods are outlined on this special Squidoo page.

How to Use the Internet to beat the credit crunch

Written by Dillon on November 19, 2008 – 7:41 am -

With so much doom and gloom in the news about financial meltdown and recession, exactly what can you do to conserve your cash?

In these troubling times, the Net is the best place. There are many ways you can use it to both have fun and save load of money at the same time.

Here’s my 5 top tips to beating any recession and save money

1) Shop online to save fuel. With the price of fuel so high, anything you can do to reduce use of your car will save you money. Nearly anything you may want or needcan be bought on the web – and usually cheaper than you can find at your local stores. If you are the type of person who insists on seeing what they’re buying, then you can at least use the Net to locate the best prices, saving you money and extra mileage between stores.

2) Find yourself bargains online. Use online auction sites like Ebay and classified ad sites such as Craigslist, Gumtree (and any local ones) to find bargains – regardless of whether you are buying new or secondhand. If you have a bit more time on your hands, search the less well known auction sites too, as they can often have good bargains.

3) Use price comparison sites. For everything from car & household insurance, to electricity & gas suppliers, the price comparison sites will help you get the best deal on those essential necessities. Why not make a night or two of it, reviewing all your insurance & utility commitments and see just how much money you can save yourself.

4) Look for discount vouchers online. If you’re going out – be it eating out , going to the cinema, bowling etc – just have a quick “Google” to see what discount vouchers can be had. Either do a Google search for restaurant discount voucher, or go to one of the many money saving tip websites – they usually have a section with details of what vouchers are available. (Just type “money saving tips” “money off voucher” etc into Google)

5) Stay in and have a dinner party. Instead of a big night out, why not invite friends round for dinner-and ask them to bring a bottle. You can find some great party games at websites like partyplan.co.uk to make you dinner party a real fun occasion.

There’s my 5 top tips to use the Web to save money, have a great time and survive these tough times. I’m sure you can think of more!

3 Steps to Your Own Ecommerce Web Store

Written by Dillon on September 16, 2008 – 7:42 pm -

So you want to start an ecommerce website and need a fast and easy way to get your business online - but you don't know where to begin?  This article has you covered! Here, you'll learn the three crucial steps to setting up your own ecommerce store.

  1. Create your online business plan – You have to know what you want to do before you can start an online business.Fortunately it doesn't take much time to do this. It doesn't have to be anything official either.

For starters, get a spiral notebook and jot down your plans for your website. What pages will be included? How many products will you sell? Where do you see your site in 3 months, 6 months or a year from now?  What are your goals for this site and how will your store be different than your competitors?

  2. Hire a web designer – There are lots of e-commerce web site design companies out there.  To make sure you choose a reputable designer, look through their portfolio

Check testimonials and don't be afraid to ask for references if needed.  Many good designers will offer a free web design quote.  Take advantage of this and compare prices and features to get what you want.

  3. Get a reliable shopping cart – There are about as many shopping cart solutions online as there are web designers, so finding a good one can be a challenge.  You can always ask your designer or web developer what they recommend.

The shopping cart you choose should be customizable so that it can match the look and feel of your website while letting you easily manage, shop and stock products online.  If you’re on a tight budget, you might also want to try a Yahoo! Store, although you can't customize their templates very much.

Overall, these three steps should get you started toward having your own ecommerce web site designed and online in a short time. All the best for your online business!
